Your Confession of Christ
Today many people consider themselves to be Christians. “I go to church on Sunday,” they say or “I live a morally upright life, sure, I’m a Christian.” But being a religious person or a so-called good person does not make you a Christian.
It is a solid commitment to Christ that makes a person a Christian. You see, all true Christians have one very important thing in common. They all make the same heartfelt confession. That confession is “Jesus Christ is Lord.” The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved” (Romans 10:9). Real Christians renounce control over their lives. They bow to Christ. They recognize His direction in their lives. And they commit themselves to follow Christ.
The confession they make is in no way an empty confession. It is possible for people to make a confession of Christ without real inner conviction. Jesus talks about such people when he says, “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and I will declare to them, ‘Depart from me’ (Matthew 7:22-23). Your confession of Christ must stem from a heart full of faith. And above all, Christ is able to look into your heart. Yes, you must truly believe that Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty due to you for your sins. And you must believe that God raised this same Jesus from the dead, and you must worship this risen Lord as the one who sits on the throne of the universe and King of kings.
To help you toward making this confession, you can listen to a sermon based on Romans 10:9 called, “Christ is Lord.” Just click here.
