Meet: Jamie Hall, SBO ’21 Evangelist

Jamie Hall – Myrtle Beach, SC

My name is James Hall. I’m from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I am single, never married. I am 43 years of age. I have been street evangelizing for 5 years. I currently evangelize on the street around my area as well as neighboring states, Superbowls and the Kentucky Derby.

At 16 years old I surrendered to the Lord’s will on my heart. After many months of suppressing the truth. Listening to the Pastor preach on Hell. I sat on the back row of a Southern Baptist Church and became aware that day that Hell was very real to me. I had no idea when I was gonna die, or had any control over my life.

Being brought up in a church that had man-centered beliefs, such as decisionism, works, and tradition. I was unaware and had no discernment at the time.

Through studying of the Holy Scriptures for myself and relying on the Holy Spirit for discernment. Christ continually revealed the truth to me, and continues too, even to this day. About 10 years ago I heard a sermon that completely changed my life, called “Hell’s best kept Secret” – by Ray Comfort. The one sermon sparked the fuel for the fire in my desire and the love I had for Christ to share the Gospel.

Several years after being called to assistant teaching at the church I was from. I joined an evangelist group called The 5 Solas Outreach Ministry. After learning quite a bit of reform theology I was quickly brought to my knees again in repentance to the Lord. There I truly learned how to share my faith openly, Preaching through Open-Air, and one-on-one evangelism. We taught each other and truly equipped ourselves for the work of the Lord.

Four years ago I defended my faith and view of the scriptures to my local church. After the confrontation I left my first church for Christ, my first love. I have attended two reformed churches since. The second Reformed Baptist church is my current church I am attending now. Continuing to be edified by my Lord Jesus Christ till the day he calls me home.

Soli Deo Gloria

New Year

2020 has been a troubling, turbulent year – one to which we could apply Her Majesty, the Queen’s apt and pithy comment in 1992: annus horribilis.

While commentators and historians will analyze the events of the year for some time, in many ways it has been God’s wake up call to the reality that, despite what we might like to think, there are significant events in life beyond our control.

Indeed, unexpected events suggest that there’s another dimension to life which we should not ignore – especially as we move into the new year.

In the minds of many, the rise of secular progressivism and its antipathy towards religion has blunted the reality of God’s existence and revelation. How important it is that we keep calm and stay the course of faith – faith that is not a blind leap in the dark, but a faith in the One whose quiet and humble coming into the world opened the door to the glory and joy of life eternal.

Isaiah 60 is one of the great chapters of the Old Testament. It looks to the glory of a future day for God’s people. It begins: Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising… I am the Lord; in its time I will hasten it (Isaiah 60:1-3, 22b).

In the minds of many, cities are synonymous with evil, corruption and the unbridled pursuit of the pleasures of the flesh, so that we can easily overlook the significance of the city in the Bible. The Scriptures consistently speak of the City of Zion or Jerusalem as a picture of God’s dwelling with his people.

Isaiah’s first readers had lost their city, the temple (the symbol of God’s presence) and their king. We can only begin to imagine how they would have received Isaiah’s words in chapter 60. For he was now telling them that darkness would give way to light and gloom would give way to glory, for God would establish his City – the City of Zion.

You may find it helpful to read Isaiah 59:15b – 60:22 that speaks of the coming of God’s kingdom in great glory. But it is a section that exemplifies the tension between the is and the yet to be of God’s kingdom. As we read this, a helpful question to ask is what lessons can we draw for today from this great section of Isaiah?

Isaiah 60 prepares us for the coming of God’s king in all his glory. It speaks of our ultimate destiny as members of a city, the new Jerusalem where, as Revelation 21:1-4 tells us, there will be no more pain or suffering, crying or death. Above all we will know the deep joy of God’s presence with us. Springing from this we will enjoy life to the full with one another as his people. But this new city lies on the other side of a cosmic divide. Isaiah’s words will only be fulfilled through the personal intervention of God himself. Only then will we be delivered from the tragic consequences of our present world.

How then should we now live – as pessimists or optimists about life? The answer lies in our need to be biblically rich in our understanding of God and his purposes. An unqualified optimism that says we should expect all the benefits of God’s kingdom now, is unhelpful. But so too is an unqualified pessimism. For to be pessimistic about life now implies that we should withdraw from society and not get involved with present issues and concerns. Pessimists tend to think of outreach as holding an evangelistic event and then drawing back into the security of the church community. They have little motivation to engage with people in their wider community in the gospel cause. Sadly, it is one of the reasons only 10% of churches in the US are experiencing what is called ‘gospel’ as opposed to ‘transfer’ growth.

Instead, we need to believe that what we do in this world has significance and can change people and things for the better; that what we do in the service of Christ in this world lasts. Paul the Apostle in 1 Corinthians 15:58 writes, Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immoveable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

As we start a new calendar year it’s worth pausing and considering the amazing picture Isaiah paints in chapter 60. He speaks of the return of the exiles to Jerusalem – which occurred in 520BC – and the rebuilding of the city. This was nothing short of a miracle. God had said it would happen. And it did.

Furthermore, Isaiah wants us to see this event as a picture of God’s far greater promise and far greater success. The success of God’s future city points us to the success of God’s rule. Come what may, no human authority, no evil power is greater than God. God and his purposes can be trusted.

Let’s pray for the grace and the wisdom, the commitment and the strength to live every day in this new year in the light of God’s tomorrow.

Confronting Satan’s Deception

It is the nature of Satan to be deceptive. Scripture says he has been a liar from the beginning. His first appearance in Scripture comes under the guise of a serpent. The credentials of this malevolent creature are announced in his introduction: “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made” (Gen. 3:1).

These words fall as a sudden intrusion into an otherwise glorious account of God’s majestic work of creation. With the words “Now the serpent,” the whole atmosphere of the biblical record changes dramatically. A sudden and ominous sense of foreboding enters the narrative. An uninspired author of Genesis 3 may have introduced the record of the fall by saying, “It was a dark and stormy day.” But such hackneyed prose would have failed to yield the foreboding dread contained in the words “Now the serpent was more cunning.”

Cunning. Craftiness. Subtlety. Guile. These are the descriptive qualifiers that paint the biblical portrait of Satan.

Coram Deo

Cunning. Crafty. Subtle. Full of guile. How has Satan used these attributes against you in the realm of personal temptation?

I was born & raised in Houston, Texas and currently live about 5 miles east of downtown Houston. All four of my kids are grown adults that are working or are in college. I work as an HVACR technician in industrial chemical plants.

Raised in a catholic household, I remember going to church when I was small, but only knew religion. I knew nothing about what the Bible teaches to be born again. As a lost person, I lived in many sins of the world and did not think about heaven, hell or the consequences of my lifestyle. I was far away from God and comfortable in my sin.

In 2009, God opened my ears to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. God removed my heart of stone, gave me a new heart of flesh and put a new spirit within me. Of all the places for this to happen, it was at a funeral viewing of a coworker’s mother that I recently started working with. The pastor was bold and feared God rather than men. He did not scratch itching ears that night, he preached about our standing with God in our sin and the eternal punishment in the wrath to come if we did not truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. I could feel the conviction of all my sins at that moment. Then he preached about what Jesus Christ’s blood had done on the cross for my sins, I could not escape the love of God that had been shed abroad in my heart and the wickedness of my sin so I prayed and cried out for God to save me.

The Gospel preaching was presented in Spanish that night. A raise your hand and repeat after me prayer was presented. After fighting with my pride about what my coworkers that were next to me would think of me, I remember feeling completely hopeless without the Christ that he was talking about! Inside I could feel the price that was paid for me on the cross and I remember being broken and telling myself, “I don’t care if y’all laugh at me for the rest of my life, I WANT THAT CHRIST HE’S TALKING ABOUT!”

Unlike the common false conversions of a sinner’s prayer, God’s grace saved me that night and through the Holy Spirit guiding me to His Word of Truth. What I felt that night stayed with me from then on and I had desires and passions that I never had before and a hatred to the sins I always loved. I did not know what was going on with me. I would get excited every time I saw someone say the sinner’s prayer, just to later find out that it’s not a prayer that saves you and many times creates false converts. I would wonder why there was never that true born again conversion like in my life because I never had anyone hold my hand and disciple me early in my new birth, but God is faithful to save His sheep!

God saved me out of religion and gave me a desire to go into the streets and tell people about Jesus Christ. There was a desire to go to streets but it took years before I was obedient to my calling. I did not know what street preaching was or how to do it until I saw some guys preaching while I was leaving the only Houston Texans football game I have ever attended. Now knowing about street preaching, I prayed and God answered my prayer by sending me brothers that I could learn from, brothers that street preach all over the U.S. and around the world. I started by passing out gospel tracts with brothers around the Houston area. My first open air preaching was at a Scotland Preaching Tour with JeremiahCry Ministries. By God’s grace, I now go every Friday and Saturday night to Downtown Houston preaching outside popular bars and club spots. I have preached at major events in surrounding cities such as Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. In July of 2019 the Founder of JeremiahCry Ministries made me part of the JeremiahCry ministry team and I am so thankful to partner up with brothers that are unashamed and boldly preach Jesus Christ and him crucified.

I have come to the realization that I have been bought with a price and I am no longer my own. I cannot stay silent about Jesus Christ and how He gave His life on the cross for sinners like me. Only by His grace and mercy will I continue to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ which is the power of God unto salvation.

All praise and glory be to God! No King But Christ!

I have been married for going on 20 years to Missy. We’ve been together since high school. We have 2 sons, Seth 14 and Ben 10. We live in Denton Texas about an hour north of Dallas.

I lived as a false convert for several years until around 10 years ago when by God’s grace I came into contact with Ray Comfort’s “Hell’s Best Kept Secret” and “True and False Conversion”. The first message helped me to truly understand the Gospel and the second revealed my complete absence of Faith in said Gospel.

Currently my family and I are making preparations to relocate to the Provo Utah area to Lord willing be a part of disciples being made and see churches being planted.

Soli Deo Gloria!
