The preeminent reason to proclaim the Gospel is for souls to hear the Word. This goal leads to a singular concentration of effort on and expectation from the hearers of the Word.
There is also a Spiritual response beyond the souls. Preaching tears down spiritual strongholds. Like when Israel marched around Jericho 7 times and the walls fell down preaching likewise tears down the spiritual walls of opposition.
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:4, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” Thus often the first need in a new area is the tearing down of strongholds. Your preaching is the means to that end. So preach long and often and don’t be discouraged though no one responds. Your mission may be to tear down the strongholds for others to enter in. You see this dynamic when one preacher begins preaching often others eventually follow. But the first preacher needed to go in to tear down the strongholds for those who followed.
Biography author Arnold Dallimore pours a tremendous series of facts into this chapter which is entitled: Laboring in the Gospel under a Crushing Load of Debt.
Here are 12 topics covered in the Chapter:
#1 The people in New England, though separated by the pro and anti-revival views, were nevertheless eager to see Rev. Whitefield.
#2 In New York, though strong statements about him had been made, yet people flocked to hear him preach and many followed him as he travelled from place to place.
#3 In Philadelphia, so popular was Rev. Whitfield, that a ‘host’ of ‘permanent followers’ who wanted to retain him to minister to them at least part of the time. They offered Rev. Whitefield £800 per annum to do so but he graciously declined.
#4 In Virginia even his printed sermons were powerful to the point that Samuel Morris had begun to read Whitefield’s sermons in 1743 to local citizens. People responded so much that Morris had to build four houses for the reading of Whitefield’s sermons and enlist the assistance of three other men to read them.
#5 In Charleston Rev. Whitefield encountered his old foe Commissary Garden who had attempted to suspend Whitefield from preaching in 1740.
#6 Then Rev. Whitefield arrived at Bethesda his orphanage in Savannah, GA. Dallimore has parts of six pages (pg 209-215) of Whitefield’s work there with the primary point of the debt the orphanage incurred financially and the weight of that responsibility upon Rev. Whitefield.
#7 The Methodists in England came under suspicion of disloyalty to the King during the Jacobite Rebellion. Whitefield published a pamphlet, “Britain’s Mercies and Britain’s Duty” which seemed to allay any thought of disloyalty to the King.
#8 Mrs. Whitefield had a trying time with four miscarriages. But their marriage appeared strong.
#9 Rev. Whitefield’s friend Thomas Noble died bringing further financial pressure upon Whitefield.
#10 James Habersham and the Bryan brothers propose and execute the plan to purchase a plantation in South Carolina to create income for the orphanage.
#11 Whitefield preaches in the Middle Colonies with an offer to settle in Maryland.
#12 Dr. Shippen, Josiah Smith and others urge Rev. Whitefield to rest and to do that in the Bermudas.
UK has five games slated for London next fall. The dates are: Oct. 14, 21 & 28.
SFOI is planning to be in London preaching for the last two games. The dates of the trip: October 19 – Nov. 1.
Accommodations: Highbury Centre.
Speakers: TBA
Airfare: you purchase your ticket on your own if flying in from another country.
Cost of the trip: $2,500 – $2,000 from the US [which would include airfare, accommodations in London, travel on the Tube and meals. The only amount you pay to SFOI is the accommodations + Tube cost. The variation in the cost is due to airfare and currency changes].
It is possible for SFOI to do the work of searching for flights and purchasing your air fare for you. In that case you would reimburse SFOI. You would simply need to notify us so the fight details could be discussed. You would ultimately pay for the flight using the link below.
A general amount to budget once you arrive in London is $100 per day. That would consist of:
$12 Tube / day
$55 Accommodations / day.
$33 meals + other expenses
That would make the total non-air fare cost roughly $1,200.

Bill Adams – Chattanooga, TN
Bill Adams was raised in the church, Baptist and Methodist, and has never in his life not known of or considered God in his life.In 1988 upon graduation from Belmont University’s Masters in Business program the Lord personally entered Bill’s life and called Bill to follow Him. That began a 27 year journey of following Jesus Christ and growing in the grace and knowledge of Him.
In 1995 the Lord called Bill to begin to go into the highways and hedges to preach the Word and in 2000 Bill became a full-time evangelist.
In the early years Bill preached at seemingly every concert, sporting event, parade and festival in Atlanta and simultaneously the Lord led him to travel to major sporting events like the Super Bowl, Final Four and Olympics to preach.
In 2007 Sports Fan Outreach [SFOI] was born as an effort to bring more Saints with him to preach at these sporting events and now through the SFOI George Whitefield program Bill is seeking men who believed they are called into full-time evangelism to join him to saturate the Western World with the Gospel.
Over the years millions of souls throughout the Western World have heard the Word through Bill’s preaching and the great delight of his life is knowing and preaching Jesus Christ crucified.
Bill is married and has four children. He is a commissioned evangelist of the Diocese of the Central States of the Reformed Episcopal Church which is part of the Anglican Church of North America and is presently enrolled in the Masters of Theology program at Union School of Theology headquartered in Oxford, England. You can read Bill’s personal theological thoughts here: Bill Adams’ Theological Writings: Views from an Evangelist.
John Coble – Nashville, TN
My name is John Coble and I live in the Nashville, TN area with my wife, Cara. In October of 2008, I was experiencing severe back pain and went forward for prayer at a special “worship and prayer” service at my church. When the woman who was praying for me touched the place where my back hurt, God clearly spoke to me in my spirit and said, “Not now, but it’s OK”. The woman kept praying and prophesying over me that God was going to give me more spiritual authority and use me to proclaim the gospel and that people would be saved through me. Ever since then, I have had a burden for lost people and for sharing the gospel. (My back is better now, after months of physical therapy.)
I didn’t have a clue where to start learning about evangelism, but *somehow* my Tivo DVR recorded “The Way of the Master” TV show. I had never heard of the show or Ray Comfort until then. This put me on the right track, and in 2010, I had the tremendous blessing of getting to attend Ambassadors’ Academy (#13) and as a result got connected with Bill Adams and Sports Fan Outreach Int’l.
Since then, I have preached before most of the Titans home games and attended 4 Super Bowl Outreaches. I regularly preach on the sidewalks and outside special events on weekends in downtown Nashville. I also preach on college campuses whenever I can. Proclaiming the Good News has been the most exciting, terrifying, meaningful adventure I can imagine. I am in the process of raising support so that I can devote more time and energy to evangelism.
Paul Harvey – Madison, AL

I was raised in a Christian home, but was living a life of hypocrisy until 2007. The Lord used a faithful preacher to show me my sin, and God granted me grace. One of the first things the Lord dealt with me about was evangelism. I went out, making mistakes, learning, studying, and growing. By God’s grace I am more equipped now than before, yet I am always wanting to learn more of Christ, share more of Christ, and fellowship more with the body of Christ. My wife of 23 years (Randa) has faithfully prayed for me both as a man needing Christ, and now praying for me as a man following Christ. We have three sons, Matthew (18), Jonathan (16), and Ryan (14). Our local fellowship, CrossPointe Church, supports us in the public proclamation of the gospel, both in prayer, finances, and holding us accountable to our elders. SDG!

Bobby McCreery – Athens, GA

Bobby is the husband of an excellent, devoted, and prayerful wife and father of three wonderful daughters and one son. Bobby was raised in a Christian home, and around age 8 prayed a “sinner’s prayer” and was told if he meant it then he was saved and would always be saved. He walked in darkness loving his sin for over 20 years until God granted him true repentance and faith and made him a new creation in Christ in January of 2009. Glory to God alone!
Bobby attended Living Waters’ Ambassador’s Academy in August 2009 and is also grateful to God for the mentoring he has received from experienced evangelists around the world. This will be his sixth Super Bowl Outreach and fourth as a team leader. He has also had the privilege of speaking and/or leading outreach teams at events like Jeremiah Cry’s Herald Society and East Coast Tours, The Kentucky Derby, Fall for Greenville, London’s 2012 Summer Olympics, and Wimbledon 2013 to name a few.
Bobby is the founder of To the End of the Earth ministries and left his secular job to respond to the Lord’s call to full-time evangelistic service in January 2011.
His main mission field is Athens, GA, where he preaches on the campus of the University of Georgia, in downtown Athens, at a nearby abortion clinic, and anywhere else people can be found.
He holds to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith.
His great desire is to by the grace of God is to honor Christ by loving his wife and children first while serving, encouraging, and equipping the local church. He also prays that God would be pleased to revive and awaken the city of Athens, GA and the University of Georgia. Bobby also works closely with Sports Fan Outreach International and Revival USA. Bill ‘DOC’ Shank – South Saint Paul, MN

I was raised in the Catholic religion. Less than 2 month’s after Graduating High School in 1982 I enlisted in the United States Air Force. On the evening of Resurrection Sunday (April of 1989, while I was working in the Emergency Room as an Emergency Medical Technian, at Ramstein Air Base West Germany), Chaplain Richard Spearman came in to visit us. While we were talking briefly, he said, “SGT. Schank, if you ever want to talk, Please call me and we can set up an appointment”. I made an appointment with Chaplain Richard Spearman (and we met once a week) for 4 week’s. During those appointments, Chaplain Spearman “took me through” the 10 Commandments. I experienced, exactly what GOD says in Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. I truly experienced Godly sorrow, as I sat in Chaplain Spearman’s office: and I wept over all of the sin in my life. Praise The LORD, that GOD granted me the gift of Repentance and I was born again on 26th of May 1989. Four month’s later, I went through a very similar experience just like Job experienced in the Bible. (I was Medically Retired from the United States Air Force for post traumatic stress. Due to the Air Show Disaster that happened at Ramstein Air Base on 28 August 1988. 3 Italian Fighter Jets collided while performing a Very Dangerous “Heart Shaped Maneuver”. The 1 Jet, “clipped” 2 other Jet’s on the tail of their Aircraft, and that Fighter Jet Tumbled right through the Crowd of Spectators: Wounding 500 people and killing 70 other Spectators. I was 1 of MANY Medical Personnel who worked on all of the wounded and dealt with many of the dead bodies. ***GOD IS GOOD, and he has brought me a Very Long Way in “healing” from dealing with all of that Trauma.
Praise The LORD, in 1993 GOD brought Ginny into my life and we were Married on 29 July 1995. She TRULY Is My Proverbs 31 Bride/Wife, & 7 day’s ago and Thanks to GOD: We Celebrated our 22nd Wedding Anniversary!!! We have 5 Adult Children: Sabrina (35), Eric (34), Aeron (33), Alyx (28), and Ana (27). And, GOD has Blessed us with 9 Beautiful Grandchildren!! During the Spring, Summer and Fall of 1993 & 1994 I did evangelism on the Street’s of Saint Paul: handing out Gospel Tract’s and 1:1 witnessing.
The very 1st time that I Preached in the Open Air, in St.Paul Minnesota, I experienced physical persecution from the Police; Unfortunately, I ran from doing evangelism on the Street’s, until 2005. The Spring of 2005 I started evangelizing on the Street’s of Downtown Minneapolis with other Believer’s. (2005- 2008 we handed out Gospel Tract’s and did 1:1 witnessing). 2009 is the 1st year that I started Preaching The Gospel in the Open Air, and by GOD’S GRACE I’m still Preaching The Gospel in Downtown Minneapolis and sometimes in other States. Praise GOD, I have been to the Super Bowl Outreach 6 times, the Fall for Greenville Outreach 3 times (when they used to have it), and I have been to a few Outreaches in New York City. Also, by GOD’S Grace and Strength, I have been to the Ukraine (during the Summer) on Short-Term Mission’s Trips 2009, 2010 & 2011. And, 3 year’s ago I was in Guatemala for a Short-Term Mission’s Trip. LORD Willing, this coming February, I will be 1 of the Team Leader’s @ Super Bowl Outreach ’18. ***I Love to Preach The Gospel and “Lift Up” The Name That Is ABOVE Every name. To plead with all of the lost soul’s to be Reconciled to GOD. And to warn/let ALL of them know, that one day Every Knee Shall Bow, and Every Tongue Confess That JESUS Christ Is LORD, To The GLORY Of GOD The Father!!
This past May 17th – May 30th: I was in Israel with 6 other Brother’s Preaching The Gospel. (6 of us were from the United States & Brother Desmond Smyth came from Dublin, Ireland). Praise The LORD, we Preached in Jerusalem, Caparneum, Eliat (I don’t know if I spelled that correctly; It’s the Southernmost City in Israel), and in Tel Aviv. The Gospel was FAITHFULLY Preached, we gave away MANY Bibles that were in the Hebrew language and Many Ingil’s (That means New Testament’s that were in Arabic). SOLO DEO GLORIA!!!
Joseph R. Toy, Jr. – Folcroft, PA

Joe grew up in Shillington, PA and attended First EC Church of Reading. He is a 1978 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School. In 1982, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Millersville University. In the spring of 1982 as a senior in college, Joe committed his life to Jesus Christ. Upon graduation, Joe began his career as an accountant in Trenton, NJ. During this time, he attended Newtown Community Church in Newtown, PA. While attending this church, Joe felt the call to full time ministry. He left his job to attend Moody Bible Institute for a 3-week seminar on Urban Evangelism with plans to attend Evangelical Seminary in the fall of 1984. When Joe returned from Moody, he began a street ministry in the city of Reading called Inner City Campaigners. From this street ministry, an outreach to children and teens began at First EC of Reading called The Source. This ministry continued from 1984 to 1988 when Joe moved to Philadelphia, PA. Joe began his theological studies at Evangelical in 1984 and ended in 1987. During this time, Joe became a commissioned missionary and a licensed preacher in the Evangelical Congregational Church in May of 1985.
In 1985, Joe and Wendy met at Evangelical Seminary while working on his Masters of Divinity studies. They were married at the chapel at Evangelical on March 22, 1986. Joe and Wendy have five sons. Jared(1987), Seth(1989), Ethan(1989), Aaron(1991) and Adam(1984). The boys were primarily home schooled from 1991 to 2013. Both Jared and Seth serve in The U.S. Coast Guard. Ethan is a career firefighter/paramedic in Currituck County, North Carolina. Aaron is employed at Wellesley Assisted care Facility as a food services manager. Adam serves in the U.S. Air Force. Joe and Wendy have been blessed with six grandchildren named: Forest, Joseph Conner, Morgan, Savannah and Jackson.
In 1988, Joe and Wendy moved to Philadelphia to begin an association With Open Air Campaigners. During this time, they worked in an internship status with this mission board. The ministry of Open Air Campaigners is to do the work of Evangelism and to train others in Evangelism in an urban setting. This association lasted until 1992 when Joe resigned because of doctrinal issues that conflicted with the EC Church. Upon resolution of the proposed doctrinal changes within OAC, Joe served as an associate evangelist with them until 2000. Joe now serves on the board of directors of OAC, Inc. At this point Joe became one of the few Evangelical Congregational Church Denominational missionaries, which is a status that continued until 2008. In 1993, Joe established a ministry called Open Air Ministries-Philadelphia. Now Joe has formed his own 501c non-profit corporation called Open Air Ministries, Inc from 2009 until the present day.
Joe’s ministry is primarily evangelistic by nature. Outreach is conducted at bus stops, subways, college campuses, center city, parades, events, neighborhoods, parks and other areas in and around the Metro Philadelphia Area. Joe does weekly outreach in Camden, NJ and in the summer conducts outreach at the New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware beach resorts. Through the years, Joe has been involved in the Philadelphia Port Ministry from 1988 to 2001. Also, much outreach has been done in inner city neighborhoods with children. Joe was a co-pastor for Metro Kids an outdoor kid’s church in various locations in Philadelphia from 2007 to 2011. Many times a year Joe travels to national events such as Mardi Gras, Indy 500, Spring Break Florida, Senior Week in Ocean City, MD and others to share the gospel. Another large part of Joe’s work is training others in evangelism. Joe spends a number of weeks each year training youth groups, college students, missionary candidates and others in evangelism. Some of these groups spend time with in Philly for a day or a week. The summer is especially busy with hosting these teams, including a number of EC Church youth groups. Joe and Wendy and Aaron live in Folcroft, which is in Delaware County, PA. Folcroft is located very close to the Philadelphia Airport. They attend Crossroads Community Church, which is in Upper Darby.
Chike Uzuegbunam – Loganville, GA
I am 24-years old, and am starving and unworthy to declare the electrifying gospel of Jesus Christ. I am currently attending Georgia Gwinnett College and, Lord willing, plan to graduate this summer of 2017 with a Bachelors in Exercise Science.
To God alone be the glory for His precious Son giving away His life for a formerly wretched and miserable sinner such as I.

Pray about joining Alex to evangelize at the US Open this weekend in NYC. If you have an interest text Alex at:615-669-0935.
Arnold Dallimore explains that in the midst of the tremendous work of God that continued after Rev. Whitfield had departed the Colonies (see pg 179-182) attacks and weaknesses surfaced.
The religious community was split into two groups: pro- Revivalists and anti-Revivalists. The names amongst the denominations were (pg 182):
Congregationalists: New Lights and Old Lights.
Presbyterians: New School and Old School.
Baptists: Separatists and Regulars.
Within the pro-Revivalists a weakness arose called fanaticism which was simply extreme emotionalism. This was combatted though several publications: Jonathan Edwards, “The Distinguishing Marks of the Work of the Spirit of God“, Jonathan Dickinson, “A Display of God’s Special Grace“, and Jonathan Parson’s, “A Needful Caution in a Critical Day“. (pg 183).
The second part of fanaticism was assuming a special relationship with the Lord. Rev. James Davenport who, ‘claimed to be guided by direct revelations’. He claimed these were the last days and that he had been divinely chosen to receive ‘visions and dreams’ (pg 184).
Davenport challenged ministers by, ‘demanding of each an account of his religious experience, and condemning all who refuse to give it’.
Davenport denounced ministers as unconverted ‘without reserve’ and ‘urged the duty of all to sustain “the work” in defiance of the commands of parents and the laws of the Colony’ (pg 187).
Davenport in 1743 ‘in an attempt to cure the people of their idolatrous love of worldly things ‘ commanded that their ‘wigs, cloaks, breeches, hoods, gowns, rings, jewels and necklaces be brought to his room, that they by solemn decree, be committed to the flames’ (pg 187).
This relates to Rev. Whitefield in that the anti-Revival camp blamed Whitfield for these fanatical practices. Whitfield in his prior visit four years before had mentioned he had ‘impressions’ on his mind while reading the Scriptures, confirmed deep emotional responses from people under conviction and challenged unconverted ministers. (pg 187-188).
Many came to Whitefield’s defense, including Jonathan Edwards. In the end it was acknowledged by all that the Revival was a work of God even though abuses sprung up (see pg 188 for Whitefield’s response).
Good Morning Brothers and Sisters,
Summer has been in full swing, the nights are providing shorter cooler breezes. The rail birds are set up near the practice fields and that means, the wait is over!
The 2018 Green Bay Packer season is upon us and we are partnering again with the SFOI 1,000 to preach at every home Packer game. This means more opportunities to share the truth with a lost and dying world.
We have our first Pre-Season opportunity to herald the glorious Gospel of our Lord and Savior on Thursday Evening August 9th. It is a Packer home game v.s. the Tennessee Titans with kick off at 7:00pm.
I will be there around 4:30pm on Armed Forces Drive near the Don Hutson Center. For parking, we are able to use Highland Crest Baptist Church lot.
If you can make it, it is imperative to let me know! Let’s lift up the saving message of Jesus Christ. If you have any questions, please let Heath know, I can be reached at 920-423-5676.
