The picture is from a Park in Mexico City where we evangelized on Saturday, November 17. What you can’t see is the road that separated the people from me. But the point of the picture is to show that there was a significant amount of foot traffic and that they would cross the road to pass by me.
In their crossing they were able to hear the Gospel and also receive a Gospel Booklet. This was a wonderful location and an environment where people could easily hear the Word and be ministered to because while there was much foot traffic the Park was a relaxed environment.
One group of Christians hear me preaching and walked up to say they heard the Gospel and wanted to learn more about me and what we were doing in the Park.
The point: large cities often have busy parks that make for fruitful environments. Just don’t overwhelm the area with noise but more fit into the rhythm of the park as you preach and distribute Gospel tracts.
When you come upon a venue look for the location where there is plenty of foot traffic in the public area instead of standing in a place that interferes with the operation of the venue.
These places are at almost every venue because the developers of the venue have created a path for fans to walk to the stadium.
Public areas are typically identified as sidewalks or streets closed off for the fans to walk.
Avoid setting up near where tickets are taken or police are working. These two items, the business of the venue and the security of its patrons, are what you want to completely avoid.
In the public place you are granted much more liberty by the authorities and you are demonstrating respect for them and their work.
Finally, in these locations, fans are not yet focused on getting into the stadium and are thus able to receive the Word and respond.
The work of the evangelist is to preach for conversion. This means for the souls that hear the Word to be called to turn from unbelief to belief in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus should be the center of your message and your message should leave no doubt as to what you want these souls to do.
Salvation, reconciliation with God [II Corinthians 5:17-19], eternal life [John 17:3] and growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ [ II Peter 3:18] begins with repenting of not believing in Him to believing in Him.
Finally, when your hearers walk away what do you want them to remember? That they must repent and call upon the name of the Lord to be saved [Romans 10:9-13].

Bill Adams – Chattanooga, TN
Bill Adams was raised in the church, Baptist and Methodist, and has never in his life not known of or considered God in his life.In 1988 upon graduation from Belmont University’s Masters in Business program the Lord personally entered Bill’s life and called Bill to follow Him. That began a 27 year journey of following Jesus Christ and growing in the grace and knowledge of Him.
In 1995 the Lord called Bill to begin to go into the highways and hedges to preach the Word and in 2000 Bill became a full-time evangelist.
In the early years Bill preached at seemingly every concert, sporting event, parade and festival in Atlanta and simultaneously the Lord led him to travel to major sporting events like the Super Bowl, Final Four and Olympics to preach.
In 2007 Sports Fan Outreach [SFOI] was born as an effort to bring more Saints with him to preach at these sporting events and now through the SFOI George Whitefield program Bill is seeking men who believed they are called into full-time evangelism to join him to saturate the Western World with the Gospel.
Over the years millions of souls throughout the Western World have heard the Word through Bill’s preaching and the great delight of his life is knowing and preaching Jesus Christ crucified.
Doc Schank a faithful evangelist is standing on the sidewalk outside a busy mall and commercial area in Wimbledon, England. He easily preaches and looks at the people. He demonstrates the simplicity of finding a busy location, standing where everyone can hear him but he does not obstruct their walk way and is thus able to continue proclaiming Words of life for a substantial length of time.
Many people speculate about the effectiveness of open air preaching, etc. and we, out of a sense of respect enter into these discussions with a genuine desire to persuade people that yes it is effective and here’s how.
Often these discussions end up being discouraging to us and lead us to quit or not be as enthusiastic as we were.
At the end of the day our job is to preach the Word. In season and out of season. Every time I preach the Spirit moves, the Word is sown and watered, and people respond.
While it would probably be unfruitful to encourage you to ignore those who inquire about our open air evangelism I would encourage you to set before yourself 2 Timothy 4:2 and just do it.
Don’t let the nay sayers, cowards and unconverted persuade you to quit. Somebody somewhere will always tell you to quit. Ignore the noise and Preach the Word!
